ABOUT

In the Fall 2015, I worked on a project called ISLAMOPHBIA. ISLAMOPHBIA  is an interactive, individual website that embraces a social justice issue (ISLAMOPHBIA). It educates the local community about Muslims in order to stop the racism against Muslims and hate crimes . This will make Muslims feel safe and be comfortable in their communities. It provides services for Muslims and non Muslims such post and read stories and their locations.

This project incorporated a standard web client technologies (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) and viewable in multiple browsers (such as Firefox, Safari, Chrome, IE, Opera). In addition, it  Incorporated web server technology to deliver the website, such as PHP/CakePHP.  The project followed a Project management artifacts related to the concepts, practices, and methods such as Backlog.

THE PROBLEM

Muslims often stereotyped as terrorists and this is because of the media. Media created public panic around the terrorist threat after 9/11 since the  terms "Muslim" and "Terrorist" became synonymous in many western countries. This lead to hate crimes toward Muslims in addition Muslims are not treated equally.

The GOAL and OBJECTIVES THAT TECHNOLOGY ENABLES

There are many goals for this website and with the help of technology, these goals will be done in an easier way. Since Technology has helped many social justice issues in spreading the news very fast and in an easy way. The specific goals are:

  •  Build awareness about Muslims

  •  End racism against Muslims and Stop hate crimes by showing some issues on the website.

  • Break the barriers between Muslims and non-Muslim community by having a collaborative place that people can show their issues.

  • People will Respect the dignity of each individual

  • Peace will be spread between communities.

wireframe

Here is a screen blueprint of the website. It represents a visual representation of the website. I used Balsamiq to do my wireframe and its a high fidelity tool. This is the link to Balsamiq that you can access to : https://uwb.mybalsamiq.com/projects/ex/New%20mockup

INFORMATION DESIGN

The information Design is a way to create a database through Phpmyadmin in which I insert the information in mysql and it will help me manage the information (photos and map) in my website. Here are two examples of my database:

Project Management

STATUS REPORTS

The status reports from the beginning of the project.  Two weeks is the period of time for each report. It describes the accomplishments, the actual efforts (by myself), future work plans with estimated efforts, and reflection  on my work progress.

Reflection

Overall, I think the project went very well. I was able to create a working, high-fidelity prototype based on real user research in just a few short weeks. We were able to do plenty of research and interviewing up-front, which helped the rest of the design process go smoothly. If I had more time, it would have been nice to do more interviews and user research.
